First story
Once Swami Vivekananda was returning from the temple of Maa Durga in Banaras, seeing the prasad in his hand, a herd of monkeys surrounded Swamiji.
Swami ji got scared seeing the herd of monkeys and the monkeys also started running after him. Then an elderly monk walking on the road laughed and said, Wait! Don’t be afraid, face them and see what happens.
The more you run, the more monkeys will run after you. Hearing the sannyasi, Swamiji looked back and stopped and started moving towards the monkeys. Seeing this the monkeys got scared and left from there one by one.

Referring to this incident in the Chicago Dharma Sabha, Vivekananda had said that if I had run away in fear of those formidable monkeys that day, I might not have been present here today.
Similarly, instead of running away from the problems, one should face them firmly.
Second story
Swami Vivekananda was passing through a bridge during his visit to America. Then he saw some boys standing on the bridge aiming, but none of them were able to hit the right target. In such a situation, Swami Vivekananda himself took the gun and shot all the right targets one after the other. In such a situation, when the people standing there asked how you did it, they said that whenever you do any work, put your full concentration in it, one day you will definitely get success.
Third story
Swami Vivekananda came to seek permission from Shardamani Mukhopadhyay, wife of his guru Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa, to attend the Chicago conference.
He said that I want to go abroad. Mother said that if I do not allow you to go, will you not go? Hearing this, Swami Vivekananda did not say anything and sat silently.
Shardamani pointed towards him and said that do one good thing, give me the knife placed in front, I have to cut vegetables.
Vivekananda immediately got up and he held the knife to the mother. Shardamani said that you have done this work for me, so you can go abroad.
Vivekananda did not understand anything, then mother said that if you would have lifted the knife from the handle instead of its tip, I would not like it.
This proves that you will not harm anyone with your mind, word and deed and will always engage in good deeds.
Fourth story
Once Vivekananda ji came to his guru Ramakrishna Paramhansa and asked what is the proof that you keep talking about God all the time, show me the proof.
Ramakrishna Paramhansa was a mystic man of very simple nature. Hearing this question of Vivekananda, he started smiling and he said that I am the proof that God exists. Hearing this from Ramakrishna, Vivekananda fell into thought and went back.
After three days he came back and he said can you show me to God. As Swami Vivekananda said this, Paramahansa placed his foot on his chest and he went to a certain period where he was beyond the limits of the mind.
After about 12 hours in material experiences he became Swami Vivekananda from Narendranath and never asked another question.
Fifth story
Seeing Swami Vivekananda being established as a role model, a foreign woman had made up her mind to marry him. During a program she reached Swamiji and boldly she said that I want to marry you.
Swamiji was surprised to hear this and he said that I am a sanyasi, cannot marry and why do you want to marry me? The woman said that I want a bright and proud son like you and this is possible only when you will marry me.
On hearing this, Swami Vivekananda said humbly that, from today I am your son and you are my mother. Now you’ve got a son like me.
Hearing this answer, the woman fell at the feet of Swamiji and started saying that you have solved my problem while maintaining your sannyasi life.
Swami Vivekananda used to say that a true man is the one who has the feeling of motherhood for every woman and respects women.
