In view of the current situation of Corona across the country and the convenience of the students, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has recognized the degree kept in the DG Locker.
In this regard, the UGC has also issued necessary instructions for central universities across the country. Along with this, the traditional mode of admission will also remain valid.
The UGC, in its instructions issued for universities across the country, has said that if a student presents a degree kept in the DG locker at the time of admission, the universities will have to recognize it.

Digitalization is being promoted
It is worth noting that UGC has been emphasizing on digitizing certificates since the year 2017. Under this, instructions were also given to upload all certificates and degrees in NAD (National Academic Depository).
The UGC says that on the initiative of the Union Ministry of Electronic Information Technology, the facility of keeping the certificates of the students in the DG Locker is being given.
Delhi University has already started securing the data of thousands of its students through DG Locker.
This action helps in providing digital degrees to the students. Along with this, Delhi University has also issued an order to print the degrees awarded in the traditional way.
DS Rawat, Officiating Dean, Department of Examinations, Delhi University, said, “Many reforms were introduced in the examination system of Delhi University, such as issuing a record 1.78 lakh digital degrees in a single day, declaring the results of all UG courses in 28 days.
Here the entire examination system has been digitized in a short span of a year. Whereas in the year 2020 September itself, the data of 27,000 students was transferred to DigiLocker.”
It is worth noting that the University has started an online portal for the degree students of Delhi University.
Through this digital degrees, certificates have been issued to the students. On the other hand, along with this, Delhi University has also got the degrees printed.
Approval of the provision of issuing provisional degrees
According to the examination department in Delhi University, digital degrees have been issued for the immediate needs of the students.
The provision for issue of provisional degrees has been approved. The university will ensure that no student is harmed.
After registering on the said portal, the students gave their academic qualification, college name etc. and after the verification was completed, DU issued digital degrees, certificates within a week.
DU claimed that it is the first Indian university to issue such documents online.
