There is a preparation to eliminate many posts in the Railways. Indian Railway Board CEO and Chairman VK Tripathi, in a letter to all general managers, has asked all zones to do away with ‘unnecessary’ posts.
And the employees appointed in those posts should be transferred to other places within a month. According to the board, Railways is spending 67 percent of its total expenditure on employees.
what is written in the letter
According to the news agency language, in a letter to the general managers of all railway zones, CEO and chairman VK Tripathi said that unnecessary posts should be identified. And the employees concerned should be posted at other places as per the requirement within a month.
Apart from this, the employees posted in unnecessary posts will be posted at such places where people are needed. And if need be, some work can be ‘outsourced’. The board also says that today 67 percent of the total expenditure is being spent on employees, which is not going to last long.
Tripathi has written that human resource is very valuable for the Railways. Especially when 67% of the expenditure is on employees. Not only this, it also has a tendency to increase. It seems that this arrangement is not going to work for the organization in the long run.

It is therefore imperative that the workforce is utilized effectively and efficiently. Use wherever necessary. In fact there is a need to rationalize workforce utilization to make the organization efficient and strong.
If the employees are working in such categories where the workforce is not fully utilized, then the non-essential workers should be posted where they are needed and the posts are vacant.
If needed, the help of an external agency can also be taken (outsourced) for the work.

These posts may be over
Under this, posts like cook, typist, cleaning helper, carpenter, painter, gardener can be included in the unnecessary post category. It is written in the letter that due to the use of computerization and information technology, the workload has been reduced in areas like statistics department, EDP (Electronic Data Processing), ticket related work. In such a situation, the employees posted in these units can be deployed at the places of need.
Apart from this, the zone has also been asked to form a committee consisting of members of accounts, personnel and another department at the divisional level to identify the category to abolish the posts.
